Ireland trip log
Saturday 09/03 Fly into Frankfurt, take train into town and walk around for a couple hours,
back to airport for flight to Dublin, meet Tom and follow him to his house in
Rathdowney with our rental car.
Sunday 09/04 Visit Rock of Cashel castle with Tom, Anne and Tommy according to Tommy (9 years old) it was a 'suck' tour. Dinner in Kilkenny.
Monday 09/05 visit Tom's glass factory in Templemore, take off on our own in the rental car
to Kilkenny castle and finish the day on a scenic drive to Cork.
Tuesday 09/06 open double decker bus tour of Cork in the morning, Blarney Castle in the afternoon but we did not kiss
the Blarney stone and on to Killarney to our favorite B&B with a beautiful view of Killarney National Park.
Wednesday 09/07 rain all day drove the Ring of Kerry, Valentia Island, Glanleam Subtropical Garden, Skellig
Visitor Centre and another nice B&B in Tralee.
Thursday 09/08 visited Adare (Desmond Castle and thatched huts), Bunratty Castle and Folk Park.
On to Cliffs of Moher overnight in Balleyvaughan.
Friday 09/09 ferry from Rossaveel to Aran Island, bus tour of island, 1934 Man of Aran movie, Regis
musical show with step dancing and Irish music. Second day of rain.
Saturday 09/10 ferry back to mainland, Clifden and Sky Road in the Connemara, Kylemore Abby, on to Sligo for the night.
Sunday 09/11 climb Knocknarea mountain and tour Carrowmore with dolmans and passage tombs, on to
Sleive League with 2000 foot cliffs near Teelin, overnight in Dunglow at nice B&B.
Monday 09/12 Glenveagh National Park, Glenveagh Castle and beautiful gardens, on to Northern Ireland, Giant's Causeway
and overnight in Balleycastle.
Tuesday 09/13 tour Belfast on another open double decker bus, good tour of city hall and then Queen's
Unversity, overnight at Newgrange B&B recommended by Barb.
Wednesday 09/14 visit Newgrange and Knowth (most famous passage tombs from 4000 BC), Hill of Tara and Trim Castle overnight in Trim.
Thursday 09/15 drive into Dublin and a lot of traffic third day of rain, usual bus tour of the town, St. Patrick's
catheral and disappointing Guinness tour, overnight in Wicklow.
Friday 09/16 last day of touring, visited Glendalough and Powersourt estate and gardens in the Wicklow Mountains
then back to Tom's house.
Saturday 09/17 relax with Tom, Anne and Tommy in Rathdowney until Saturday night when we go to an
Irish wedding reception in Kilkenny.
Sunday 09/18 catch early flight back home.
