Friday July 1 Drove after work to Hidden Horse campground in Northern California meeting Aaron, Addy, Elizabeth, Julie, Tim
L, Janet and Tim S around 9:30pm. John could not make it this year for the first time in 32 years because he was sick.
Saturday July 2 Decided to do loop in opposite direction after talking to other people in campground, drove a couple miles to
Long Gulch Trailhead, hiked in 4 miles with 1000 feet elevation gain to Long Gulch Lake (6440 feet). This was Aaron (5),
Addy (8) and Elizabeth's (10) first backpack. All the kids did great, Aaron fuzzed and cried a little but he made it! A lot
of people camping at the lake but we found a nice spot with room for our four tents between the creek and lake, bad bugs and
mosquitoes, kids went swimming right away in the lake.
Sunday July 3 Spilled hot chocolate on my ankle and got burned, day-hiked up to the pass (6800 feet) toward Fish Lake, Julie,
Aaron and Elizabeth hiked back to camp, bushwacked up Deadman Peak (7600 feet) with Addy, Janet, Tim L and Tim S, nice ridge
hike until we had to cut across steep talus slope, this was Addy's first and highest peak, did a loop to other pass (7400
feet), made it back to camp around 3 for a swim to cool off.
Monday July 4 Backpacked over to Trail Gulch Lake (6414 feet) over Deadman Pass (7400 feet) about 4 miles, much prettier lake
and a campsite right on the lake, few bugs, no one else camping at the lake but a large CCC (California Conservation Corps)
group camp was close by.
Tuesday July 5 Hiked out 2 and 1/2 miles by 11, Tim L, Tim S and I walked down road to get cars 3/4 mile at other trailhead,
lunch all together in Weed, Julie and gang head south and Tim S, Janet and I head north getting home after 6
