6/18-20/2021 9th Annual Father's Day Camping trip; drove up Thursday night and met Tim S, Janet, John and Gretchen at Trout Creek Campground in South Santiam Canyon near Sweet Home; Julie and family arrive Friday night along with Holly and Michael; Saturday hike up Iron Mountain 7 miles 1300 feet with Aaron, Addy, Liz, Julie, Tim L, Holly, Michael, Janet and Tim S; fun swimming, kayaking and jumping in the South Santiam River by the campsite; Sunday we all headed home; it was a beautiful spot, weather and weekend. 6/3-7/2021 Bike up Going-to-the-Sun highway to Logan Pass 32 miles 3300 feet with Jean and Laura C; Drive to Tim and Janet's (Tri-Cities) for a good dinner and conversation Thursday spending the night, drive to Coram, MT and Bridgette's for another good meal Friday, got up early to meet Jean and Laura C at Lake McDonald Motel at 8am Saturday, drive to Avalanche Lake where the road is closed except to bikes and hikers, got there at 8:30 parking lot full and Avalanche Campground (not open yet for camping) used for parking and still had to squeeze into some spots for our two cars, probably a thousand bikes going up but still plenty of room for everyone plus big horn sheep and a marmot, definitely the best way to do Going-to-the-Sun highway, PT and Camille come back from backpacking in Glacier on Sunday and we all go out for dinner in Whitefish and check out PT's job site, drive back to Salem Monday. 5/28-31/2021 4 day backpack in the Sierra's west of Lake Tahoe in Desolation Wilderness with Ziv, Elle, Matt, Sarah and Yvette; drive Thursday night to Loon Lake trailhead, Friday meet Matt, Sarah, Elle and Ziv in the morning and backpack in 8 miles 500 feet into our beautiful camping spot on Rockbound Lake, Saturday day hike 11 miles 1300 feet and mostly bushwhack up to Highland Lake and Zitella Lake with Ziv and Elle, Sunday day hike 13 miles 1300 feet up to Horseshoe Lake and McConnell Lake again a lot of bushwhacking with Yvette, Elle and Ziv, Monday get up early, hike out and drive back to Salem. 5/9&10&17&24/2021 Mother's Day at Cubanisimo Vineyards for wine tasting; Whalen Island County Park 2 miles 100 feet on the coast north of Pacific City; Munson Creek Falls 1 mile 200 feet near Pleasant Valley; scouting out Pamelia Lake and Benson Ridge trailheads and trails for our July backpack, still a lot snow.
