6/23-25&7/3&9&13-17/2023 Annual Father's Day (actually a week later) camping trip Adams Fork (north of Mt Adams) with Aaron, Addy, Liz, Julie, Tim, Holly and Michael; hike up Green Mt near Horseshoe Lake 8 miles 1500 feet with everyone; Bachelor Mt hike 4 miles 1200 feet near Detroit Lake; Laura's 74th birthday with a special cheese soufflé dinner; Sierra Backpack at Florence Lake in the John Muir Wilderness with Elle, Ziv and Mark; Boat ride across Florence Lake to trailhead, backpack thru Muir Trail Ranch (Larry who has a bad back joined us to here) then up to first camp at Senger Creek 8.5 miles 2600 feet on the John Muir Trail (JMT) and the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) few people the 5 days we were out, some JMTers and PCTers mostly from overseas; backpack up to Sallie Keyes Lakes 4 miles 300 feet a lot of river crossings because of all the snow the Sierra's got this winter which the mosquitoes loved; day hike up to Heart Lake and Selden Pass 7 miles 1000 feet in a lot snow; backpack back down 11 miles to valley with a side hike to Piute River where we entered Kings Canyon National Park; backpack out 6.3 miles 300 feet to catch the ferry back to our cars, fun trip!; Summer volleyball team with Ashley (played at 8 months pregnant) , Kyle, Trish, Janel and Kenny. 5/8&16-23&29&6/2-7&15-18/2023 Cascade Head hike 4.2 miles 1100 feet on the coast; nice visit with Tim and Janet in Boulder, Colorado with plenty of activities; Sanitas Valley hike 2 miles 200 feet with Laura, Tim and Janet; Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art; Boulder Ballet - A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Mahler Symphony No. 2 with MahlerFest, Macky Auditorium Concert Hall with Susan and Galen starring Janet in the Boulder Chorale; good tour of the National Center for Atmospheric Research - NCAR; a lot of biking around on great bike paths all thru and around Boulder; CU campus with Matt's old freshman dorm and Carelli's restaurant where he worked; dinner at Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse; Stahlman Point hike 4 miles 1300 feet with a nice view on Mt Jefferson; trip to San Diego for John's 80th birthday with lots of activities; Big Laguna Lake loop hike 7 miles 800 feet with John and 12 of his hiking friends; San Marcos walk 6 miles 200 feet with John and 3 friends; Chula Vista walk 4 miles 300 feet with John and 5 friends; fixed up Bette's bike (Schwinn one gear with pedal brake) and then 5 mile ride to Ocean Beach; dinner at Italian restaurant near Mark's house with Christine, John, Bette, Tim and Janet; sailing in San Diego Harbor with Mark Sutton (great sailing instructor), Sharon, Tim and Janet with a stop downtown at a Mexican restaurant for lunch; the big birthday bash (lots of food, cake and drinks after hike) for John's 80th birthday and a hike up Cowles Mt with John, Bette, Tim, Janet, Mark, Christine, Dylan, Tom Brown, Cathy and 30 other friends; annual trip to Glacier and a visit to Alison at her Belly River Ranger Station; hike in Ranger Station and then hike to Elizabeth Lake and check permits of the backpackers; watch a helicopter drop off 7 loads to build a new front porch on the Ranger Station and put up some wire fencing for the stock (two horses and a mule) coming in the Ranger Station; looked thru Ranger Station's log book and found PT's notes from 2007 when he was a ranger there; hike out with Alison on Lee's Ridge trail 10.4 miles 2900 feet and do some trail maintenance with a hand saw; meet Jean and Laura Cooper for biking Going-to-the-Sun-Road but when we drove over Logan Pass it was snowing so we decided to bike around Many Glacier instead.
