8/21&28&9/1&4&7-16&21/2023 Hart's Cove hike 3.5 miles 700 feet on the coast; Silver Falls hike 8.5 miles 1400 feet the trail of 10 water falls but this is the least water flow I have seen at the park the last 20 years; Richard and Shelly stop by for visit and cheese soufflé dinner; Bald Mt 6 miles 1000 feet with Richard and Shelly in the fog near Falls City; Iron Mt hike 6.7 miles 1900 feet on another foggy day; 50th Syracuse U reunion in Asheville, North Carolina with Dean, Jane, Rocky, Susan, Charles, Tom P; spent fun day with Boone, Katie and Will's 2 year old (Rocky and Susan's grandson); dropped off Boone at Katie and Will's new beautiful house on the mountain; Max Patch hike 2.2 miles 500 feet nice views of the Smokies on the Appalachian Trail near Tennessee state line and then lunch at Hot Springs, NC with Tom P and Rocky; delicious BBQ at Dean and Jane's house Saturday night and then another good dinner at Rocky and Susan's house Sunday night; cocktails at Asheville's historic Grove Pine Inn with Tom P, Rocky and Susan; drive up on the Blue Ridge Parkway for lunch at Mt Pisgah Inn with Rocky and Susan; Rocky's Paper Mill were he worked and retired from, and it just shut down for good; visit with Joel and Catherine in Charlottesville, VA; Joel gave us a nice tour of the campus plus the Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia, the quad and rotunda; Jefferson's Monticello Highlights tour with Joel with an excellent Jefferson impersonator; Joel and Catherine's beautiful new penthouse apartment with a custom built kitchen they designed and fabulous views; Joel cooked us gourmet meals in their new kitchen; Ragged Mt hike 2.7 miles 300 feet very close to their place; next and last stop for our trip Salisbury, PA to visit Laura's cousin Patty and Mike and Scottie; Patty's served us a great dinner with fresh corn on the cob and zucchini from a local farm stand; Middle Pyramid hike 4 miles 1800 feet; Ramesh doing a soft field landing in the grass at Lenhart Airpark near Hubbard, OR in a Cessona 172 Skyhawk. 7/24&26&30&8/10-13&14/2023 Tree Climbing at Silver Falls State Park 250 feet up a 300-400 year old Douglas Fir with 4 new friends and an instructor; 5th annual Kayak and Paddle Board work group going 8 miles on the Willamette from Keizer Rapids Park to Wheatland Ferry with Jennifer, Mary, Will, Diane, Brian and Matt; Battle Axe Mt hike 6 miles 1700 feet near Elk Lake in the Cascades; Holly and Michael's wedding on San Juan Island lots of fun with friends and family; ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island with Kelsey, Arden, Mia, Andy, Susan and Galen; a day in Friday Harbor visiting the Whale Museum with Kelsey, Tim and Janet; drive around the island to Cattle Point and Lime Kiln State Park with Kelsey borrowing Tim and Janet's car; a well done Twelve Night play at a beautiful outdoor setting on the island; Welcome dinner hosted by Tim and Janet for everyone at beautiful Lakedale Resort where we stayed and the venue for the wedding; 3 hour fun sea kayak trip from Snug Harbor on the island with our guide Gunner, Ellie and Kelsey, lots of seals, jumping fish, herons and jelly fish; the big event right outside Lakedale Lodge with Holly and Michael tying the knot, very nice; reception under the big tent with lots of dancing; on the way home stopped to see Tom T and Kristina at their beautiful home on Camano Island with a nice sunset from their porch and delicious fresh crab cake dinner; Iverson Trail Reserve walk 2 miles at low tide and mud flats with Tom T, Kristina and Kelsey; Tom T pulled in some more fresh crabs in his crab pots; visited La Conner, WA, checked out Museum of Northwest Art (MONA) and nice dinner at a restaurant off the boardwalk with Tom T, Kristina and Kelsey, then off to drop Kelsey at SeaTac airport on the way home; Kelsey in a Barbie gig.
