History of our family farm:
Irwin and Katie Piefly (Tom's grandparents) purchased Crystal Spring Farm on July 21, 1903 where they raised their family, one son and six daughters (Melva, Tom's mother was the youngest). The farm was run as a general farm during this period. Daughter and son-in-law, Lillie and Frank Sell, purchased the farm on May 1, 1931, where they raised four sons. The primary operation of the farm during this time was growing potatoes. Their son, Hubert and his wife, Grace, purchased the farm on May 22, 1966. Interested in dairy farming, Hubert and Grace began dairy farming as the primary farming income. Audrey, their daughter, manages the retail store. Sons Scott and Gary, herdsman and crops manager/mechanic, respectively, operate the farm. Youngest son, Ronald, oversees Crystal Spring Electric. The lifelong commitment has left them with well over 200 years experience combined and an expertise that is difficult to match.
Sam and Sarah's wedding in the Catskills north of New York City; Rail Train quad bike ride 8 miles in the Catskill with Aaron, Julie, Christine, Mark, Kelsey and Ryan; we all enjoyed shoofly and funny cake pies from Crystal Spring Farm made by cousin Scott's wife Lisa after rail bike trip; that night was the Welcome dinner for everyone at a local diner; the next day a 2 mile walk on Windham Path doing John's 3 geocaches with Aaron, Kelsey, Julie, Christine, Mark and Joel; it was raining most of the day but it cleared up an hour before the outdoor wedding ceremony so both the weather and the ceremony were beautiful; Sam and Sarah had very thoughtful vows and Sam's cousin Ellie lead the ceremony, all well done; then cocktails and a fun reception under the big tent with delicious food, a great live band and a lot of dancing; Sunday a goodbye breakfast for everyone and a game of petanque with Kelsey, Patrice, Aaron, Michael and Tim next to the hotel; drive Patrice to the airport and drop Kelsey at her place in Brooklyn; hit the road that afternoon driving to State College, PA.
We decided to drive straight back camping one night then hotel the next night taking 5 days to get home; Monday night we camped at Indiana Sand Dunes State Park right on Lake Michigan with a view of the Chicago skyline; Tuesday a hotel near Lincoln, NE then Wednesday camped at a nice KOA in Rawlins, WY; Thursday in a hotel in Twin Falls, ID and then back to home sweet home Friday! We visited the site where Evel Knievel attempted his jump across Snake River Canyon in Twin Falls and also checked out Shoshone Falls Park close by. We had a great trip and really enjoyed seeing friends and family but always good to get back to your own bed. Google Photos
